The housing is still simple and bulky, but it is the inner values that count. Fluorescence resonator signature (FRS) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/search\/results\/all\/?keywords=%23technology&amp;origin=HASH_TAG_FROM_FEED\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">technology<\/a> uses surface-functionalized microparticles as sensors that can move freely in a liquid sample to actively &#8220;search&#8221; for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/search\/results\/all\/?keywords=%23microorganisms&amp;origin=HASH_TAG_FROM_FEED\">microorganisms<\/a>. The microparticles are then read optically to provide information about the type and quantity of microorganisms. Thus, the technology offers significant advantages over state-of-the-art technologies such as Surface Plasmon Resonance (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/search\/results\/all\/?keywords=%23spr&amp;origin=HASH_TAG_FROM_FEED\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SPR<\/a>), particularly in terms of time to result and sensitivity.<br>Over the next few months, we will be testing various components of the instrument in the laboratory, working with different live bacteria in analytes such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/search\/results\/all\/?keywords=%23water&amp;origin=HASH_TAG_FROM_FEED\">water<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/search\/results\/all\/?keywords=%23wastewater&amp;origin=HASH_TAG_FROM_FEED\">wastewater<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/search\/results\/all\/?keywords=%23yeast&amp;origin=HASH_TAG_FROM_FEED\">yeast<\/a> extract, and raw <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/search\/results\/all\/?keywords=%23milk&amp;origin=HASH_TAG_FROM_FEED\">milk<\/a>, before moving on to initial pilot applications next year with an improved version of the instrument.<br>We especially thank <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/sprind\/\">SPRIND &#8211; Bundesagentur f\u00fcr Sprunginnovationen<\/a> for their support and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/universit%C3%A4tsklinikum-jena\/\">Universit\u00e4tsklinikum Jena<\/a> for the opportunity to use the S2 laboratory.
