2025 EIC Accelerator – Horizon Europe (SpheroScan, 101217886)

For the SpheroScan project, the primary objective is to advance the biosensor system from an advanced prototype to a fully validated, market-ready product. The project will focus on completing technical validation in real industrial environments, preparing scalable manufacturing workflows, and establishing the foundations for commercial launch. To achieve this, pilot studies and proof-of-concept trials will be conducted with key industry partners. These pilots will deliver performance data to refine the product and support regulatory and customer requirements. 2025 OFWAT Water Breakthrough Challenge 5 – Rapid Cryptosporidium detection

The innovation project aims to develop and demonstrate an automated system for the detection of Cryptosporidium oocysts in drinking water. This system will use FluIDect’s FRS technology and functionalised fluorescent microparticles (μBeads). Developing the μBeads and an automatic sample concentration module will enable continuous monitoring of large volumes of water and reduce the time-to-result. During the project, the technology will be validated in laboratory tests and field trials with UK water companies, including Severn Trent Water, Dŵr Cymru, South West Water, United Utilities Water, Scottish Water and Hafren Dyfrdwy. This will help advance the monitoring of microbial water safety in the UK water sector.

Funding in Thuringia

2024 FEE 0002: The aim of the project is the development and use of magnetic MicroBeads as biosensors within the framework of the SpheroScan® system.

2024 INP 0010:  The project aims to create the capacity to carry out complex test series, check/document the results during the process and prepare them for validation.

2024 INP 0009: The project aims to create the theoretical basis for this, design test series and evaluate and validate the results.

2024 FEE 0013:  The aim of the project is the biosensory detection of carbapenemase or carbapenemase-producing organisms to detetct  antibiotic resistance. 

2026 GST 0006: The project aims to design and manufacture an industrial enclosure based on a concept provided by FluIDect.

2023 GST 0009: The project focused on the design of a fluidics unit and an optical housing based on concepts and specifications provided by FluIDect.

Funding in Lower Saxony

2026 HTI STEP: Development of a modular interface platform for automated microbiological process monitoring, with a focus on the water sector. The project focuses on standardized electrical, fluidic, and digital interfaces, as well as an industrial HMI/GUI concept. The goal is to reduce integration effort, enable flexible use in water and process plants.
